Romans 10: 12-13
(Romans
10: 12-13)
For there is no difference
between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that
call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon
the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Salvation feels easy.
This is what Paul heard when he was baptized. In Acts 22:16, Paul's testimony
is found: "And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash
away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Paul heard a voice in Damascus
saying, "I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you persecute." So he came to
believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Then he was blinded by the light shining
from the sky. Those who do not repent are blinded spiritually even when the
Lord's light shines. Those who repent open their spiritual eyes with that
light.
For three days, Paul repented,
saying, "I have opposed the Lord." Forty years of life in the
wilderness was recorded in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and as soon
as the tabernacle was made in the wilderness, Aaron's sons immediately died
while offering another fire. It is simply stated in the Bible that thousands of
people died while committing adultery in the wilderness, and in detail, the
Israelites died while opposing God in the wilderness. In Deuteronomy, sins
trying to be higher than God are recorded. Paul's spirit awakened for three
days.
In three days,
Ananias came to Paul. The three-day period was the period of Paul's repentance.
After healing, he said, "You call on the name of the Lord and be baptized
and wash away your sins." Peter said, "Repent, each be baptized, and
be forgiven of your sins." This is a quote from Joel. Repentance is that
Jesus becomes Lord. Paul said in Damascus, "Who is it, Lord?" At that
time, the Lord of the apostle Paul was the Lord of hosts. Three days later,
Paul realized that Jesus Christ was the Son of God and God Himself.
In Matthew 7:21-23, “Not
every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of
heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will
say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in
thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works. And
then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work
iniquity. 』
Here, saying “Lord, Lord” does not mean
that you will be saved. “You didn't know me when I
prophesied in my name, so I didn't know you either.” He
prophesied and exercised his power in Jesus' name, but he does not know Jesus.
The church says "Amen", but do you really know Jesus? You cannot say
that you know unless Jesus is your Lord. If you are told to give Jesus, Jesus
must be Lord in your life.
And
then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work
iniquity. 』
Again, he called and
said, "The name of the Lord Jesus." This means, "A believer does
not say that Jesus is the master, but just uses the name of Jesus." When
Jesus becomes Lord and calls on the name of Jesus, someone in the family calls
the Father. But what would happen if you weren't in the family and called you
father? Your father will say, "Who are you?" Repentance is that Jesus
becomes Lord. If you are not united with Jesus who died on the cross, then
Jesus will not be the Lord. Even if you call him the Lord Jesus without coming
on the cross, Jesus is saying, "Who are you?" Repentance is the
process of self-denying and entering the cross. When we say that we reflect on
the sins we commit in the world, that reflection also falls into the category
of repentance, but the meaning here is that the process of self-denial is
called repentance. Conversion from the evil attribute of ``self'' is
repentance. It doesn't mean that you leave evil as it is and reflect on the
consequences of sin. Evil must die with Jesus on the cross.
